FIAT Mefistofele, 1/12, Italeri

Post by daniel »

Now that I finishe my 910 1/12 Vetiver Carven the next one will be the Mefistofele.
I will add of course as much detail as possible, replace the plastic wood with real one, maybe do some 3d printed wheels with metal spokes and for sure many 3d printed parts for the engine etc.

At the moment it's a lot of dry fitting sanding and cleanup...very crude kit !!! Pictures will follow tonight but in the meantime I'm looking for some tips to replicate that wavy/dented metal bodywork.
Here you can see the rough bodywork.

I was thinking about covering the body with aluminium tape but that wont conform to forms and I'm scared it will peel off over time.

On my Datsun I used a flame to melt the plastic and stones for the dents but this time I need much finer dents !?

...any ideas !?

metal foil on top? Not necessarily the 'bare metal' foil they sell to reproduce chrome on models, but isolation material for airco/heaters? It has a bitumem back & can easily be dented... I think you can buy it in different thickness sizes

Yes tried that already but don't know how to deal with the louvres and the tail. The foil won't fit there !?

Hi Daniel,

I once build the Revell Type VII U-boot and i replicated the dents and imperfections on de hull skin by 'roughing' it with a dremel tool and after that priming/sanding the surface again with Scotchbrite, I used this technique also on my Trumpeter BR52 Locomitive model.

Maybe you can experiment a little bit with this technique and give the surface just the amount of imperfection and dent-look you need.
But be carefull by using this method, it is very quick way to much!!

apparently, the bottom of 'my' 934 just has the look you want. Especially top right corner is ;-)

Maybe you can ask Christian (capri-schorsch) how he managed to do this as i bought the 934 from him.
Just looks like a whole lot of paint brushed on and left to dry without rubbing it all out to get it to sit as flat as possible.
