1/12 Kremer K3 Porsche 935

Post by capri-schorsch »

Hello,
i try to build the Kremer K3 Porsche 935 in 1/12 scale
That famous cars was the winner of the 1979 LeMans race.
It was the first, and only as far i know, sportscar who could reach the first place overall against the prototype.
Try to create an good enough model out of the Tamiya Porsche 935 kit.

Major changes have to made to the body work.Mainly the whole body is different. The engine and interior needs not so much attention.
But here a pic to show which car i mean.

source: Bruce Canepa Autokollektion USA http://canepa.com/1979-porsche-935-k3/
Got an old build Tamiya Porsche 935 and lots of new sprues at home.Should be possible to build something K3 like out of it.

First step will be some templates for the wheel arches and the fenders.

I was sure my next build would be an oob build after the Zakspeed car.
And i put my new Tamiya Porsche 935 onto the bench.
But when i searched the web for reference pics,i stumbled over that beautiful Kremer Porsche.
And thats it. I have to build my own one.
The very successful "Numero Reserve" car is a must. But i also like the "Apple" livery car a lot. Will try to create a mold for these.
And the 1980 "Jägermeister" car is also possible. But the 1980 cars needs even more changes to the body.

Regards Christian

The 41 car in the pic is a The Peterson by my house. If you need any detailed pics, let me know. I’d be happy to take as many detailed pics as you need. I go there often and right now, they have a dedicated Porsche exhibit going on. It’s pretty awesome. They have a 956, 917, 919, 935, GT1, etc.

Hi Christian,
Interesting project, this is really cool you need help from Dale King
who is the master on these!
The Hawaian Tropic version etc!
I have the Apple version by TSM in 1/18 an awesome car and good for photo reference if you need!
Are you still selling the RSR conversion kit in 1/12 as will probably need one at done point!
Cheers

My favorite three 935s are the Martini, Hawaiian Tropic and Numero Reserve cars.

I love this thread. Thank you for bringing the rest of us along!!

Hi Sean,
It could be great if you can take as many detailed pictures as possible of the K3 and also of the 917 and 935. I have the MFH 917 and Tamiya 935 on the pile and I am planning to create the 3d drawing files to build the K3 body.

Thanks a lot in advance!!

I will go sometime next week. Please PM me your email for the files. You can walk all the way around the K3, but the 917 is stationed against a wall, so not a 360 view. For those in or around Los Angeles, check out The Peterson. It’s was remodeled a couple years back and it’s a proper museum now. My fave is the all carbon McLaren P1. Not super crazy to see so much carbon, but it’s an amazing car in person. Small, like the F1, which they also had on display last year.

I would also be interested in 919 and GT1. While there is no kit of McLaren P1 available, I hope some day there will be. So, detail photos of P1 would be
greatly appreciated as well. And it always great to have photos taken by model builder. Point of view and goals of photos are different from normal
photographers' views.
