Prismacolor. it has very dense pigment. Art store should carry.

I'm not at home to verify but I'm pretty sure Joe hit the nail on the head with the Prismacolor.

I tried the "stamp" method developed by Eagle50 and the results were mixed (most likely due to user error).
So next step is to try the colored pencil method.
