Rich, THAT shot I like! And yeah, some detail are underexposed and lost, but for me personally, that is an awesome image.

In my opinion, regardless of the background Eric, I feel the DoF actually accentuates the model, giving it a more "Life-Like" appearance.
It also focuses the viewers attention to the model, or even a specific are of the model that you may want to highlight.
For instance, if you were to take an image of the real car from this angle ( depending on the lens and setting you used ) it could also appear like this.
It add perspective and scale. This is of course just my opinion
