Fairly early '70's. 1973 I think with Indy cars. Off hand I can't remember if F1, Indy cars and sports cars all changed the same seasons or not.

From looking at pictures in my books they were introduced to F1 in 1971 ( although the threaded 1970 tyres don't look that far away from being slicks :-)
In prototypes it must have been later because for example the 917s didn't use slicks in 1971.

In 1970 F***S**** tested slicks on the Lotus72 at Hethel. I think slicks came to the for in 1971.

So now i know '69 goodyears were not slicks.
Anybody has picture of '69 goodyear tire?
