Ferrari F60 late version tamiya conversion
Well guys i threatened I'd do it so here's the proof!
As I said in my wip on my 1st F60, the poor model i had stripped of paint many times, has provided me with the option of trying to convert the kit to a late season version. The list of alterations i'm hoping to complete are as follows :-
1st, shorten and alter the profile of the sidepods to make the rear wider and flatter for the exhaust ports.
2nd, attempt to alter the gearbox surround/bodywork to resemble late version.
3rd, rear of airbox needs slight alterations to include gearbox fairing.
4th. make approximate DDF at the rear of floor.
5th, alter rear wing side planes to resemble late version.
6th, depending on race variant, change rear wing main planes.
7th, alter/add front wing aero's.
not such a long list, but many tiny/big objectives to be made in each!
My first task was to shorten the sidepods by removing the overhang from over the gearbox and to split the exhaust ports into 2. With the help of a hairdryer i then bent the plastic upwards to help make the port more flatter. I then proceeded to fill with automotive filler called metalik here in the uk. very tough, easy to sand and most important, quick drying I reinforced the split with plastic card for added strength. I also bulked out the sidepods with the filler so a gradual widening was made.
I've also made a start on the airbox by adding brass curved plates that cover the top of the gearbox. For the bottom, I'm going to trying using the kit parts by just removing the lip that normally sits in the undertray.
Here's a few pic's to show how far I've got.
any suggestions/comments welcome
Cheers Phil.

Agree with Jeff. Great to see you having a crack at this.
If it helps, I can photograph the Tameo CAD artwork to assist with proportions?
The angles of a couple of the photos look a little deceptive, but the overall shape looks pretty accurate.

Re: Ferrari F60 late version tamiya conversion
thanks for the encouragement guys, i'll try to do it justice Micheal? i'd love a copy of the CAD drawings if you are able to provide, i just noticed that the right hand sidepod is slightly wider than the left Not a major task to get right, i think its the left side that needs a little more work. Its a bank holiday here this weekend , so i should be able to get some quality time to spend on her.
as always more comments the better, it can only help
cheers phil

Re: Ferrari F60 late version tamiya conversion
small update,
I've changed the end deflectors on the front wings for the taller version using brass plate. Also closed the rear of the engine cover with styrene sheet and smoothed to shape. And finally i changed the shape of the rear wing end plates to match later version. Still a long way to go but I am pushing on regardless, btw i also corrected the rear of the left sidepod to match the width of the right A few pic's below.
have a great easter everyone

Re: Ferrari F60 late version tamiya conversion
Small up-date
Works has been really busy so had little time to work on the conversion of late. I've signed of the bodywork, cant get much better than i have now, but i'm more than happy with it. Sprayed both coats of Zero's f2009 paint, and i must say, the silver basecoat is far better than the last batch i recieved, appears more opaque this time so maybe i had a wishy washy batch for my O>T>B build earlier in the year! Gonna hit it with a base layer of clear later to protect the red whilst i continue onwards. Next will be attempting to replicate the D.D Anyway a few pic's for now.
cheers phil.
