Tony Stewart's 1970's Bobby Allison Throwback
Hi everyone,
My first NASCAR build. For those that don't follow NASCAR, a recent tradition has been to paint the cars in classic paint schemes at the Labor Day Southern 500 at Darlington. That race produces some of the coolest paint schemes, including what Tony Stewart drove last year. I used Revell's 1/24 snap kit as a donor and added some details along the way. The decals were a Powerslide sheet printed by Cartograf, they were excellent. I enjoyed the build and will look to do more in the future.
Thanks!
Jake

Amazing that you were able to get a Revel snap kit to look that good!
I really like the car! I have several OLD Monogram NASCAR models on the shelf. Just cannot get myself to build them being Monogram.
Thanks for sharing really do like the model.

Looks great, assume the kit was pretty easy to build?

The kit is a great base. The body comes pre-painted and the paint is very thick. It took a lot of thinner and sanding to get the body clean. Other than that, the only issue is that the body sits too high on the chassis. To get it to sit right, you need to cut the suspension down, flatten the rollcage, and cut back the dashboard.stubeck wrote:Looks great, assume the kit was pretty easy to build?

Very nice, they are a well engineered kit how they go together. This was a great scheme and a race I love seeing.

Hi Jake,
What an amazing build!
I would think the decal sheet is miles ahead of the Monogram NASCAR kit decals. I've done one for Jeff Gordon's first championship winner #24 car. The kit decal is like stiff paper.
Thanks for showing the great work.

Very nice Chevy Jake!
I am working on a Ford Fusion. I'll post pictures of it when I finish it.
These kits are very good to take a break from a more demanding project.
Cheers,
Starr

Thanks. Thats been a problem for years with the cars, so I'm not surprised that its still an issue. Its one of the reasons I've shyed away from other Revell kits.whatisdeletrazdoing wrote:The kit is a great base. The body comes pre-painted and the paint is very thick.
