Ernie Irvan M&M's Pontiac

Post by Shunter »

Back when M&M's had a man representing them who did not spit the dummy like the current driver, I really liked this car, so did my wife and she has always been on my case of when am i going to build this one. Well i decided to do it and now i wish i had thought about waiting awhile longer...I have filled in the vents that Revell put into the nose of this model, sprayed it Tamiya TS16 Chrome Yellow and the interior is the usual AS20, my plan was decal this with the main graphics and then hit it with 2K and then the final sponsor logos. However these decals being Slixx and now quite old all i can say is they are ****. You just have to look at them and they shatter or just break as you try to move them into place, so this is as far as i have gotten so far.
But thanks to the help of you here i will try the decal bonder and hope for the best, if you look at Red on the side you can see a few cracks in him...

Nice! Were you planning to cut the decals that go over the hood gap?
I know all too well your comments about using old decals and trying to get them onto a model.
Seems when it does happen there aren't any replacements to be found. I have several NASCAR kits that I just cannot seem to get out and build.
Spoiled with Tamiya and other kits were Monogram kits are terrible.
Hope the rest of your build goes OK and Thanks for sharing!

Gotta be honest, couldn't even tell!! Looks great for such old decals. Doing a lot better job than I know i could do. Youre making me want to go out and get a old NASCAR kit, even though I don't like NASCAR anymore!
And so you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further. With your mind power, your determination, your instinct, and the experience as well, you can fly very high.

Body looks pretty good in your photos. Just call any defects in the decals "race damage/ scratches". :D

I'm with Jeff on this, hard to tell from the pictures that you've had issues.
Nice looking car, how good would it be if Tamiya kitted a NASCAR racer in 1/24.
