I've worked on the Doyusha 1/12th BMW csl kit on and off for years, trying to do the Calder Art Car. I've painted it twice and keep putting it away because it isn't turning out as well as I wanted. I think I've got a good start on the paint job now just need to wet sand and clear coat & polish.

I'll watch this thread, perhaps it will inspire me to pull it out again.

A group build with group 5 cars are great.
And I got 2 group 5 cars in the making.
But when I can finish the Capri or the 935 K3 it's not 2020. Its more like 2021 or even later.

But I will watch that with interest.
By the way.
The BMW CSL was not a group 5 car. It was a group 2 car I mean.

According to Wiki:

Group 5 cars
Cars homologated by the FIA as Group 5 cars included the following:

1st Generation

Code: Select all

Abarth 1000 TC
Alfa Romeo 1600 GTA
BMW 2002
Ford Escort Twin Cam
Mercedes Benz 300SEL
Porsche 911
BMC Mini Cooper S 999 cc
2nd Generation

Code: Select all

Porsche 917 (includes the Kurzheck (K), Langheck (LH), widebody shortnose 917/20)
Ferrari 512M/S
Lola T70
Ford GT40 Mk 1
3rd Generation

Code: Select all

Ferrari 312P
Matra-Simca MS670
Mirage M6
Alfa Romeo T33TT/12
Renault Alpine A442
4th Generation

Code: Select all

Porsche 935 (includes the 935-77, 935-78 known as the Moby-Dick and the customer Kremer K3 and K4 and the JLP variation)
BMW 320i Turbo
Carma FF
Dallara Icsunonove
Toyota Celica LB Turbo (RA22) (1st generation)
Dome Celica Turbo (RA45) (2nd generation)
TOM'S Corolla G5 (A40)
Nissan Skyline RS Silhouette Formula
Nissan Nichira Impul Silvia (two nose variations)
Mazda RX-7 252i
Mazda RX-7 253/253i/253SR
Mazda RX-7 254/254i
Nissan Bluebird SSS Turbo
BMW 3.0 CSL
BMW M1
Lancia Stratos Turbo
Lancia Beta Montecarlo Turbo
Ferrari 512BB LM
Zakspeed Ford Capri Turbo
Ford Escort Zakspeed
Zakspeed Lotus Europa Gr.5
Greenwood Widebody Corvette
Out of those I have a bunch 1/12s in the "pile" (Porsche 917 LH '70 & '71, K '70 and Lola T70). Interesting to see that the later GT40s were apparently something else (Group 4 or 6). If I can find it, I would like to do a 1/12 CSL or a 1/12 M1 as either of the art cars (there are two for the CSL, the Alexander Calder and the Frank Stella one). I've seen the Calder car at Le Mans 2 or 3 years ago (or maybe more)... That should be doable with just masking, the M1 and the Stella CSL will only be doable with decals. But for now I'm not throwing my hat in the ring, since I don't have either of the Bimmers yet and sourcing them in 1/12 is a little expensive these days.

Hmmmm.....interesting. I have never been involved in a group build. What are the sporting regulations here - do's and dont's?
I dont really want to be called up to the stewards office

I have this....

https://images2.imgbox.com/60/2c/AVzpFgWW_o.jpg

or this...

They are motorised jobs so not much of an interior.
Do these pass scrutineering? :D

Cheers
Tim

Both of these would work great! I accidentally entered a Group 2 car thinking it was Group 5, so we're not being too stingy with rules . If you're interested, we'll gladly have either or both in the group build!

Ok...count me in. I will build the 935/77.
We are just going into winter here so painting could be touch and go but we should be all good :D
Have done a bit of research on this one. Turns out it depicts chassis 935-004
Its first race was the 1977 Mugello 6 Hr...and its last race was the 1977 Mugello 6 Hrs.
Explains why I have had all sorts of trouble searching for period photos. I found 2 though.

It started the race looking like this...
https://images2.imgbox.com/fa/5d/m0w0Gu6D_o.jpg

And finished the race looking like this...

The factory wrote it off and it was eventually sold to the States to be restored but the project never eventuated. Freisinger Motorsport bought it and eventually completed the restoration in time for it to compete in the 2018 LeMans Classic.
For those interest in the restoration and history of the car https://www.freisinger-motorsport.de/po ... /9923.html

Like I mentioned earlier, it is a fairly basic kit with the dodgy sort of interior you expect from motorized kits, but the body and exterior captures the shape of the car pretty well...even though it is '1/24 almost scale'
It will be pretty much an out of box build. I guess I better get started.

  Which one was that?? :D :D
I found this allows me to solve one of those "WDIDWTM" (What do I do with this model??) enigmas.
I bought one ESCI M1 decades ago, to make a different car. it did not happen, and I chopped the M1 badly, just to start fixing it some days ago. I am that stupid and I would prefer to keep this one rather than a newer one I bought (ages ago too, but it's in one piece), to make Niki's Procar.
So I felt syupid fixing the chopped one when I did not know what livery to put on it. So, now I can add stuff to the chopped one and make a nice Gr 5 M1, which BTW has nice liveries... 8)

Not sure the regulations for this Group build, but count me in as a wildcard. Maybe vaporware, as summer is not my strong build time here in the Midwest USA. Therefore the easy way out would be this car in my stash.

The list you have includes some prototype cars. I have never heard the 917 fitting under G5 rules. Interesting. However don't make me build a Heller kit.

Image

Will you allow Phantom Silhouette cars? I have a project that I started back in....well maybe around 1977 or so that needs completion... :)

Image

And then there are the staples, but I will never get the 1/12 car done the way I would like in a few months...LOL.

Image

So I guess it would have to be the Nissan?
