Hasegawa 1/24 Team Tom's Minolta Toyota 88C Le Mans C1

Post by aracefan »

Finished this up today for an 80's decade group build from another site. Figured I would share here.

Lot's of little mistakes made, but learning as I go.
Painted completely with Tamiya Acrylics through Iwata Eclipse AB, Tamiya Semi-Gloss clear.
Built completely OOB, this is a curbside with no engine even included...
The decals were large and definitely and challenge for me.
Had a lot a fun building it and fairly pleased with how it turned out, pretty much looks like my skills level. :D

Nice! Those decals do look like a challenge but you did a great job with them.

Impressive. Tricky scheme to get right, looks superb and nicely photographed as well.
Good work.

Nice build, and great job on those decals! I’m intimidated by kits like these because of the difficulty of working on large decal pieces (and the potential of tearing them with no backup set).

Wouldn't be that tricky to mask up and paint the blue. That would be my approach.

Thanks guys, for all the kind comments!! This one came out a bit better than I expected - and agree, it's also my favorite era of sports cars. Next to 80's & 90's F1 cars, these are by far my fav!

I did tear a couple of them and repaired them with little bits of "extra" overhang from some of the decals.
I got a tip from another modeler too use a ton of water to float them on, and then slowly start setting them. Patience is key, which I'm, obviously still having to learn.

Totally and completely agree, daveyman, if I was to do this one again, or recommend it to someone I would suggest getting some tracing paper and just make some templates of the large body decals. Especially the ones on the top, I feel it would be much easier to mask and paint two colors than getting all those decals on. The ones on the side weren't too bad because they weren't "that" big, but the top ones were a challenge. Course, I'm getting better at doing the large decals now...
