Sauber C9, Hasegawa 1/24

Post by whatisdeletrazdoing »

Hi everyone,

Here's the second Sauber C9 to be posted here today - what are the odds! While Marco's Tamiya C9 is detailed and clean, my C9 is far from it. I built Hasegawa's curbside version and was unimpressed. A surprising amount of flash and with nothing inside the car, there were far too many spots where you could see through the whole car through the ducts. My build is hideously inaccurate. It's the 1988 kit with 1989 decals. Some of the decals cracked and tore, hence why the rear wing is bare. Admittedly I lost interest about halfway through and just wanted to finish it before the New Year.

The only added details were blocking off ducts, a few radiators in the big side ducts, and radio antenna. I went for some heavy weathering using Vallejo acrylic washes over Tamiya panel line accent. This was the first time I used post-it notes for "masking" the weathering off of panel lines and I loved it.

This is my final build of 2017. I have a big resolution for 2018. I will limit the number of kits I buy in 2018 to twice the amount of kits I build and sell in the same time period. Or at least I will try to!

Happy New Year,
Jake

While i like the Hasegawa kits they do have their issues, especially with the older decals. I like it and nice work with the weathering....I might have to look at sticky (post it) notes in the future.

Well, that's quite a difference in the appearance :D

I've done the Hasegawa (=Revell) in the Kouros version, so I know that it's not the best kit, but you built it very well.
The front of the upper side of the rear cowling is a bit too dark IMHO, but except from that I like the weathering.

Thank you! The engine cover is definitely too dirty - trying to cover up some paintwork mishaps!

Despite your disappointment with the kit, I think it came out very nicely! And thanks for the post-it notes masking tip. I'd never heard that one before.

So you sell your models, do you, Jake?

Cheers, Chris

I saw something in a magazine where guys would mask off flaps and such on aircraft with post its since you can move them around and they don't lift paint/decals. It worked wonders!

No, I meant unbuilt kits in the stash. I doubt there are many that would pay money for my builds, haha.

Like the weathering.
Looks like it came from the Bladerunner movie set.
