Yes, great to see it back

After his last post, went to the website for Legend and bought two of their bodies, one resing body for a 575 Maranello Red-Bull car with decals and wheels, wing etc - great stuff, and the resin conversion body and wing and wheels for the 333Sp - which I have the diecast already in pieces - want to do the 1999 Doyle-Risi Racing Olive Garden car if only I could find the decals - looked at Nastycar stuff but the green is different and logos too.

There was also a beautiful Ferrari 550 or 575 GT car with the Olive Garden Livery and they would make a great colorful Italian pare on the shelf

Hi Alex,

You can try Decaldoc.de. Send him an email with a picture of the decals you want and ask him if he can make those. If you have the 1/43 scale Olive Garden decals, you can send a scan of the decals (or the decals themselves) so he can convert them to 1/18 scale.

PS : I assume you know HW has a 1/18 model with the Olive Garden livery ?

This is how Hot Wheels made the exhaust pipes :

Image

The first 2, made from sprue :

Four more :

This 333SP has no radiators, the inside of the sidepods will be visible. I removed the 4 metal tubes that hold the screws :

Image

And modified the fueltank. Before :

After :

Image

It took a lot of work (and patience) to build the rear suspension from brass tube and copper plate :

Image

Fixed together with a soldering iron :

Image

Dryfit with the wheels :

Image

The construction is hold together by 2 brass tubes inside the gearbox. It will be glued after painting :

Image

There still a lot of sanding work left on the headlight housings, and I have to find a way to make the headlight covers :

Thanks !

The exhausts have given me a lot of headaches. But after much trial and error I found a method that works for me.

I don't know how many times I build and rebuild the exhaust tubes, but here's some pics of the different versions.

Electric wire :

Solder wire :

Image

Leftover plastic (sprues) from a 1/35 scale tank :

I modified the engine in order to fit the exhaust tubes :

And the finally I found the right method to make the exhaust, a mixture of sprue, solder wire and aluminium wire :

Let's compare it with a reference pic :

Image

YES, were getting there !!

After a lot of hours of bending, cutting, sanding and dryfitting the left set of three inner pipes is ready :

The engine compartment has a big airscoop. I opened up the hole in the front and glued the inner part with CA which was covered with flour :

The Hot Wheels version looks like this :

Image

The real one looks like this (this is not a picture of the car that won the race, but it has the same type of airscoop) :

Image

I used my dremel to cut a line that will hold the top horizontal frame :

Great project!!! I love the 333SP! I have the BBR 1/24 kit, and have been begging for a full detail version (listening MFH  :D ). Never thought of modifying the 1/18 scale die-cast, your build is great! Looking forward to seeing more.
Cheers,
Chris

Not sure why there is such a stigma by some concerning diecast. Sometimes it's the best and smartest way to get a model. Your basically starting over, but some just need a helping hand. Fantastic project :P
