McLaren MP4/2 Beemax 1/20 scale

Post by bettsmums »

I just finished building the Beemax MP4/2 out of box without the detail up photo-etch. The kit has really nice details and fit together well. I used Model Master Fluorescent Red for the body panels instead of the decals. I created and printed the M@r!b*r* decals on my computer with PowerPoint.

I thought that some of the good points were that the tires have the depth slots molded into the tires and the ridge did not need to be sanded off the center. There was a faint ridge molded into the body panels to delineate where the red and white touch each other. This made masking very easy. The instructions show where the optional photo-etch parts go during assembly. Many parts fit so well that they could actually snap into place without any glue. I also liked the carbon fiber weave molded into the main monocoque.

The only problems I had were that the lower left body panel was slightly warped and the decals on the entire sheet B would not come off the backing paper. I tried cold, warm and hot water, soaking several minutes and the only thing that worked was a single edged razor blade. They stuck to the model well after I got them off the backing paper. Sheet B is all the decals that are not florescent red. Some machine tooling marks were visible on some of the parts from the molds.

Great work.
Mine's still waiting at the post office...
The number on the nose looks a little undersized?
Bummer about sheet B...
