Olsonite Eagle, MPC, 1/25

Post by MarcoSaupe »

Hi

In memory of Dan Gurney I built his 1968 Olsonite Eagle, which he drove to 2nd place in the Indy 500.

It's an almost 50 years old kit, reissued by AMT some time ago. Part fitment is not that good, lots of flash, often something is askew, especially the front tires and I sanded the windscreen down to 2/3 of it's original height to make it fit.

But: It's a plastic kit of an 1960s open wheel car, and I'm happy about every single one of them. Painted with Zero Paints Eagle Blue and some Alclad colours. I used decals by Indycals because of the more opaque white. I replaced the intake trumpets with wire end sleeves, made better belts with Leukosilk and added 1-2 details at the rear.

Hope you like it.

So beautiful! I built one a long time and know well the limitations of the kit. You did a wonderful job.

Kit looks awesome and you got the color correct! Eagle blue looks great on the main body.

I built this kit a few years ago, and it was a tricky but engaging kit to build, plus it was in the old MPC style box and I thought I was a kid again!!! Hope you felt youth on your side too! :P

Hi Marco,

What a beautiful Olsonite Eagle! Gurney's cars always look great. You have done the kit a great job!

I also have this kit. From what I can find, it is some where between 1/25 to 1/24. Anyway, it still a kit that I have try to find for sometime.

Thanks for sharing your great Eagle!
