1976 WC - 1/20 Tamiya McLaren M23 - FINISHED
Hi all!
Im working on Hunt´s winning car, using Tamiya PE set, aftermarket decals and other own improvements, but not based on any specific race.
Free Practice 1: DNF
Press Conference:
Most complicated DFV Engine in my entire life!!! I made 4 til now (tamiya b192 being the oldest) and... holly S$%&/!
Old Tranny, easy
Trans lower cover will be added later with lower wishbone to improve aligment
Exhausts are tricky too but similar to other DVFs
I will add metal tube from a ballpen to improve them, tomorrow...
Other small sub-assys
OK all day long doing an engine... And now i remember what I thought firts time I opened the box: Hey 3 sprues, this beauty will be straight forward!

Off to a good start. The benefit of the complicated engine is that it looks great when completed.
A little warning about the exhausts. Once the exhausts are installed to the engine, it is tough to get into the chassis. Not impossible, but tough. I recommend some test fitting to make sure they are installed properly for final assembly. Speaking from experience .
Looking forward to seeing more of your progress.
Cheers,
Chris

It is a little tricky to line everything up with the venerable Tamiya DFV, but when finished it looks great. This was the staple of many a Tamiya kit, starting in the mid 70s with the P3/4 and the M23. I think a lot of us here have built many of these!

Re: 1976 WC - 1/20 Tamiya McLaren M23
Thanks for your kind words!
Lets roll !!!
2mm solder line makes the marriage
Exhaust needs a support and its done cutting original part and sanding it with Tamiya diamond file (great tool), spring will be simulated with guitar string
All together to test
Cam covers original VS modded with PE
Following CBartholomew advise, im working on chassis.
Doing missing panel lines (diamond file again )
Some random holes here and there
Delete frontwing endplates: done, front rollbar: done, access to the coffin: done
Now I have a question, what colour for the exhaust? Unpainted metal tubes are ok?, or they need a base color?
Bye!

Using the ballpoint pen tube is inspired! I never would have thought of it.
