Even the best laid Plans........
...... can fall apart, go up in smoke or not be realized.
I will do my best to not be overcome by these pitfalls but I can make no promises. I have a short list of cars for years now that I have wanted to model in 1/12th scale. 3 of these cars would fit nicely into the 2014 group build. I really do not want to tip my hat just yet because I am still pondering the decision of which one to tackle. At this point I will say only that two of the three are World Championship winning cars, the third was just a ugly dog with fleas, but that is what makes me want to model it. More to come!!
Thanks

Re: Even the best laid Plans........
At the risk of biting off way more then I can chew, I'm pretty busy at the moment with work and personal renovation project, I'm going to commit myself to building the car that earned Frank Williams his first F1 victory as a constructor, the #28 FW07 driven by Clay Raggazoni to Williams first F1 victory at the British GP in 1979 at the Silverstone circuit. And I'm going to do this in 1/12th scale. JB can you help with some decals??
Here is a picture of the car:
This one is also of interest so I might build this at the same time, but then again, maybe not.....

Re: Even the best laid Plans........
I think since the Lotus 78 is the closest DFV/Hewland car to the year of the FW07 that Tamiya has on offer that it would lend it's self best for things like brake calipers etc. Everything else in the Tamiya line up with the DFV other then the Wolf is too old to have parts on the car that could be poached for use on the FW07. What do you think Bill??billgtp wrote:Going to use a Lotus 78 for a base?

Tyhat's a great decision! One to encourage no doubt!!!
Decals you'll have for sure: after al, upsacling is not that hard
About parts, well: the mechanical stuff is easy. Either it exists (DFV, Hewland gearbox) or is very geometrically shaped (brakes, uprights, suspension elements) and hence easy to make.
Key element is bodywork. Just to tell you I have thought on this one more than once and finally I did think I'd rather do an FW08 as the 07's body is quite complicated. Unless you start from a 79 (but it's sooo expensive) or uise 3D modeling.
Count on me for help anyway!
