lemans miniatures jaguar xjr14 1/24 SCALE

Post by phicks »

Hey guys - I recently purchased this kit from a member here but the vac-form window is just full of bubbles and
therefore unusable. In fact three sets were included in kit but all the same condition. I am hoping maybe
someone might have an extra that I could purchase? I live in USA. Thank you

A couple of options you have.

1) Make a plaster cast of the windshield. Then vacuum form one yourself.

2) Make a plaster cast of the windshield, and then see if a member here can vacuum form one for you.

There are several members here that could probably help you out in that respect.

Could you post a photo of imperfections ? I have a second kit, which I kept for myself. It has 3 sets as well, but I don't know if they are any
better then yours. If mines are better, I could send you one set.

Thank you R.WELLS , yes I will probably go that route.
Lezdep - I do not know how to post photos yet - someday hopefully! Lemans miniatures quality is usually
really good but these windows are the worst i have seen. If yours are clean that would be great. If not I
will cast a mold and break out my trusty Mattel vacuform.
THANKS GUYS!!

I only have very limited experience on vacuum form parts. Usually the vacuum form process should not create any bubble in the material.

I have seen raw transparent sheets have very nice protective sheets to prevent scratches. Sometime you don't even notice it until you scratch on it and bubbles are formed.

See if this is the case.

C K - wish that was the case! "bubbles" is the wrong word to describe the situation. evidently there was some dirt
on the mold when they formed it.

Bubbles are very well possible in the vacuum forming process - they are steam bubbles actually. I've used PETG / Vivak that easily develops steam bubbles. Here are two canopies, one with and one without steam bubbles.

Rob, what thickness Vivak is this? 0,5mm or thinner?

I use(d) 0.5 and 1.0 mm Vivak, and I do not remember a significant difference between them, steam-bubble wise..

Ah, no it wasn't about bubbles. I've just used 0,5mm Vivak for the first time and it's better than some of the other materials i've been trying. However, 0.5mm is a bit thick for other parts i'd like to do ( headlights and 1:43 windows ) and i'm looking for a PET-G with about 0,3mm thickness but so far i haven't found Vivak any thinner than 0,5mm.
