Quick question. Can I use Tamiya Primer as a base for Zero Paints.

I use Tamiya spray primer (decanted) routinely for Zero paints and other lacquer based basecoats/paints. Also in that vein I use Mr. Surfacer.

Big yes. But, spray ZP slowly and never too wet on Tamiya prime. Zero Paint is still too hot, Gravity (buy Spain, don’t buy USA mimic) is a little less hot. Both of them needs extra care not to be too wet.

Splash Paint is much better, especially its new interior colors, wonderful finish, and not so hot. Chance to fail is very low.

Finisher’s Paint is the best of the best, never fails, not hot at all. You can wet as needed.

Hope this helps.

hard to get Finisher’s Paint now. I used to buy frequently from:
https://toyzable.com
https://galactictoys.com
https://www.toypanic.com

But they suspended overseas shipping to USA.

I remember galactictpys is USA based but the stock paints are very limited and no Finisher’s thinner in stock.

You can try eBay, but you know the price is more than doubled and my last purchase ( this June) took 2.5 months to arrive in USA.
