Modelers FA13 1/20
Hi
Am looking at picking up this model, but I have a couple of questions...
1. Does anyone know if there are replacement decals available? I would mask and spray the red chevrons but the Footwork logos etc could well be yellowed. Indycals don’t seem to have them
2. Has anyone got a tip to spraying (or more accurately, masking) the yellow line on the rims? Have never attempted to paint these before, but the last model I built that had these (Lotus 107) I used the decals which looked awful..
TIA

Re: Modelers FA13 1/20
I have a solution for #2.
I usually first paint the yellow. then i cut a mask with a circle cutter, i use the decal as a guide for the radius. then mask the yellow area and spray the rims black.
Works fine!

Have you actually asked/spoken to Michael at Indycals??? because he might be able to help you Chumley...
It's always best to talk to people first, Michael (Indycals) is a very helpful guy and even if hasn't got
them, he will point you in the right direction or suggest something... IF he isn't able to help
Try Wim at bestbalsa kits or JamesB... good luck!!!

I can do two of the things you've put on the table: I have three kits, the idea is one of them will not be used as the original subject (believe it or not, I bought it with the idea of making a McLaren, don't remember which one, later I saw there are strong ressemblances with Williams FW14 and 15...) so I can check if I have one set available. But then again if all them are yellowed, I will be the first interested in making myself a set I am out of paper and temperatures make printing almost impossible, but soon this will change.
So let me check and I'll tell, stay tuned

Re: Modelers FA13 1/20
I already had the variant of Museum Collection in my head because my decals are also yellowed.
Pattos also listed the Footwork in 1992, but not in 1/20, although this may not be the problem, but also not with all the details.
That's why I got off the idea again.
So my kit is still here and waiting to be built ...
A solution would be a great thing!

Re: Modelers FA13 1/20
I think the problem with the Footwork is the fact the team wasn't sponsored by a tabaco company. The original decalsheet is already complete and there is no demand for fill-in decals. This might be the only plastic kit in 1/20 without the chance to get aftermarket decals.

Hi Chumley,
The FA13 has a reasonably simple livery, so masking and spraying the required areas would not be too difficult to complete.
If the film which surrounds the Footwork and Toshiba logos has deteriorated, it should be able to be trimmed away. You could even consider the idea of separating each letter, trim off the offending yellowed areas and apply each letter as individual decals to form the completed word. Fiddly? Yes, but it can be done.
Cheers, Paul
