Unidirectional CF Decals?

I've done that type of pattern for a 1:20 MP4/4 build years ago and printed them on clear decal paper with a laser printer. Over a silver base that looked all right. You don't get the effect of the pattern changing with the light, but then you don't get that with other cf decals either.

Thanks, yes I was thinking something very similar, but black lines over perhaps dark grey - very low contrast. I'm not bothered about the change in appearance with viewing angle - that's just too far!

If you start with a silver base you can always tone it down with some "smoke" paint.
Easier than to brighten it up if you start with a ( too ) dark base.
