Doubt about Williams FW11B - Color

Post by Badi »

Hi,

I want to build a conversion of Tamiya FW11 to FW11B and would like to use the indycals decals,

There are 2 options for the ICI decals and I choose to go for one version that use the Gloss ICI logo to make some difference from mine FW11.

so, the question is Indycals decal is gloss black and white. For me, it seems blue and white.

does anybody know about verions of this car? Is it possible to be black and some races blue?

for me seems all blue, sometimes blue and sometimes dark blue.

Some opinion?

Looking at the last two pictures it seems black.

I would say black, but on "restored" williams.

If you look on 1987 pictures, it's blue

HI Badi,

For 1987 the first 11 rounds (IE up to and including Monza) the ICI logo was black with a yellow background.

1987 09 06 Monza Italy 27 - Copy.jpg
Monza
For the last 5 rounds the ICI logo had a blue background, for sure in some poor quality photos it can appear black, but I have enough photos of each race to show it is blue.

It does appear that the restored cars are different

Hope this helps,

Malc.

Have checked my 1987 annuals and archives.
I can confirm Malc's findings:
Brazil to Italy is black.
Portugal to Australia is blue/white. (Note: The blue is not the same as the navy panels on the car - its more a brighter 'brilliant' blue, although in photos it appears to be roughly the same.)
This is the same for both drivers.

Looking at your decals the white on black is definitely not right.
You are correct to have your doubts.

Car that used to be in the donington collection had the black/white logo, but I assume it may have been restored at some point?

Yes, thank you all!!

That's what I thought, now I just need to convince Indycals to change the color of the logo for the last 5 races, because that is my version to be build.

Thank you, I think it is clear enough!
