Mold Release for MFH?
Hi All, especially all of the Model Factory Hiro experts here.
I just got my first MFH kit. Is plain old bleach OK to use on the resin parts to remove mold release? Do I even need to do that?
TIA, Cheers,
Greg

Re: Mold Release for MFH?
Tell you the truth, everyone told me bleach and so I tried it - it didn't seem to work as when I started priming, the primer was clearly not adhering to the surface. I am building the 1/24 908/3 kit.
Would love to hear other's feedback.

You’re in the USA, right, Alex? So I should be able to find it. Always used oven cleaner in the past, but too nasty.Sennafan wrote:Use Bleche White

Re: Mold Release for MFH?
When I was at MFH in March, I asked the head model builder about this. He said they do not use mold release on their resin. He said he cleans the resin parts with acetone. I tried it on the 917/20
I am building and it seems to work great. I wiped down all the large body parts. No problems with paint adherence.

Re: Mold Release for MFH?
Thanks, Dave. I soak the resin parts in Polident...in the US that’s the solution you use to clean dentures (false teeth). A couple of tablets into a water bath and I’ve never had a problem. Wait, the problem was when my wife found the Polident and asked when I had false teeth put in (and what else I had to replace).

That's what I've been saying for agesdaves wrote:When I was at MFH in March, I asked the head model builder about this. He said they do not use mold release on their resin.
Release agents are not necessary while the mold is new. All alien stuff may affect (and so it will) the resin composition.
I've tried to use release agents (wow, sounds like spies stuff! ) when mold started to get ageing and you don't get any help...
Usually, fine water sanding will sort things out. It'll deal with any mollecular level silicone presence. Urethane resin itself is paint friendly. After all, it's similar stuff to most of paints.
I always prime directly.
If anything, you'd better use soft stuff like alcohol. Some thinners may be aggressive to resin.
