tire sizes 312T & 312T4 1/12 Tamiya
Anybody knows if sizes for both front & rear tires are the same for 1/12 Tamiya 312T & 312T4 so all they really differ is the make?
Thank you for your input

Hey Wim,
Nope..very different.I quote the dimensions from the Ulrich Schwab F1 yearbooks..
1975 Ferrari 312T : Front 9.2/20.0-13
Rear 16.2/26.0-13 GOOD YEAR measurements in inches
1979 Ferrari 312T4 : Front 23/59-13 (285-13)
Rear 38/68-13 (450/13) MICHELIN measurements in inches
Alex.

If I remember correctly, the shape of the tires were also different, as the Goodyears were still bias ply construction, and the Michelins were radials. The radials had a straighter profile across the width of the tread, and the sidewalls did not bulge as much as the much as the bias-ply tires.
Maybe Derek (Icon_Modeler) could share his knowledge of this.

The wheels/tires of the 1/12 Tamiya 312T and T4 are not interchangeable (T4's are wider).

Subject: tire sizes 312T & 312T4 1/12 Tamiya
It is my experience that if the dimensions are only slightly different then the rubber Tamiya tire will stretch to fit. If the dimensions are a big step in any direction they may not be interchangeable.
The biggest outward difference between the 312T & the 312T4 tires is the shape over all of the T4 tires is a little more square and not as rounded as the T tires. And the T4 front tire is much taller overall than the T front tire. This was the start of the ground effects era and the front tires started to grow in overall height. The T4 front tire for example is too tall even to be correct on the 312T3 both Michelin's.
Why do you ask?? Are you wondering if the Goodyear tires from the 312T will fit onto the machined wheels for the 312T4 from Mac??.bestbalsakits wrote:Anybody knows if sizes for both front & rear tires are the same for 1/12 Tamiya 312T & 312T4 so all they really differ is the make?

Re: tire sizes 312T & 312T4 1/12 Tamiya
Derek,
very kind of you, but not really needed. I have a 312T kit coming from Japan, so i can check myself in few days/weeks. I have the AZRM rim set, so would be easy for me to check myself.
I just launched question here because customer asked me about this, and customers can't wait for days or weeks of course
