Looking to build the 1975 M23. Looking for opinion. Is TS-49 the correct color for the 1975 version as well.

I looked at HiroBoy and did not find any M23 colors for 74-75.

Personally I intend to use TS-8 on my M23 from 1975.

The dayglow colors were first used in 1976. TS-49 should be too bright.

That picture isn't from 1975. Emerson was in that car with the #1 in 1975.

I'd say it's "normal red" for 1975, so TS8.
Fluo seems to have started in 1976

Yes - 'normal' post office red in 1975.

yes, flouro started in 76 and there is a RAL colour code matching for it, don`t have it on the table accidently, but this RAL code was right after they switched to the new Flouro red

Model Car World in the USA and both of the Gravity Colors companies (Spain and USA) offer the non-fluoro pre-1976 red paint. I didn't find a Zero Paint offering on the Hiroboy or Hobbyworld-USA sites, although Zero may have it.

Model Car World: http://mcwautomotivefinishes.com/paint/racelist.html
Gravity Colors - Spain: https://gravity-colors.com/ (for some reason couldn't open details for the specific color)
Gravity Colors - USA: https://www.gravitycolors.com/product/m23-mclaren-red/

I agree with the others that in Tamiya sprays, TS-8 is closest. TS-49 is too orangey. I recently used TS-49 on a build of a MOMO Porsche 935, sprayed straight from the can, and it is a vivid red-orange (which was exactly what I was hoping it would be), but it would not be correct for the pre-1976 M@rlb0r0 red.

Steve,

I find that the TS8 is somewhat transparent. If you go the TS8 route I would suggest using TS49 as a base color and overcoat with TS8 That is how I would paint my '75 M23's :D

Would the pink primer work for it?
