Williams FW07 Eliseo Salazar Aurora Series 1980
With only a few hours left in 2019 I finally managed something for almost two years.
It's not the most obvious F1 subject as it is no car from the World Championship but from the British Formula 1 Aurora series. In 1980 Emilio de Villota and Eliseo Salazar were running away with the championship driving Williams FW07s which even in the World Championship was the car to have during that time. While de Villota ended um champion Eliseo Salazar was runner up winning three races in his blue-white Viceroy/Bata/Visit Chile sponsored car. He used two chassis during the season, FW07/1 until round 6 and FW07B/6 for the remaining 6 races. Two of his three wins came at Thruxton, one in round 5 in May and the other in Round 10 in September. At about mid of season the color scheme changed so I thought it would be nice to do both versions as I found the blue and white Williams quite good looking.
So took two built FW07 kits I got from eBay and transformed them into the 1980 Salazar versions. Decals for the early car with the white sidepods are from Studio27. For the later car with the blue sidepodes I used decald provided from our friend JamesB. The modifications to the kits are minor. Just added the vent and radiator at the left side of the cowling' back, added fabric seat belts and used bigger front wings with different endplates. And for chassis FW07B/6 the roll bar got an extra loop at the top.
But enough about history. Here are some pics. First the early version, winner at Thruxton in May:

Here are both versions for comparison:
Looking at my kit statisics these are kits no 199 and 200 I finished in 1/20 scale. Only another 200 to go!
Wishing all of you a Happy New Year!

I love all the versions of this car that were used. I built the version in the first picture, didn't know the other version existed. Good job!

It was an iconic car and I enjoyed that you could take a year or two olde car and still race it. I always like how you do the obscure builds...great job.
