A agree with Steffen , I tried to built this car a long time ago it is very difficult paint job , And Congradulation yours is fantastic ! good jobSteffen_T wrote:Out of your league?
Come on, you have build a fantastic model of that Benetton which is in my opinion one of the most difficult cars to build. Getting the paintjob right is most important on that car, and you did it like a master!
You can be proud!

Sure. I airbrushed it first with Tamiya Semi Gloss Black. Next I brush painted the belts Tamiya flat red, thinned slightly with 90% rubbing alcohol. When painting these make sure to overlap onto the black seat slightly. After about 4 coats of the red I cleaned up the overlapped red with semi gloss black also thinned, making sure to keep it off the rounded edge of the red belts.tubegenius wrote:Excellent work! Could you share your technique for painting the seat and molded in belts and buckles?
The buckles I brushed with Mr Metal Color chrome, this stuff is awesome and brushes very well right out of the bottle. Also the same technique as above overlapping slightly making sure to get the entire buckle, then I cleaned it up with either the red or black.
After that dried overnight I used Tamiya Panel Line Accent Black , just dapped it lightly in the folds and edges of the buckles. If it gets a little heavy just hit it with a cotton swab lightly.
Let that dry overnight and then I airbrushed it with Tamiya Semi Gloss clear, thinned with Tamiya Laquer thinner. Light coats not heavy or it will end up looking too shiny. This step brings it all together and hides the brushstokes and touch up marks.

Thanks for the advice. Do you use acrylic flat red, and if so, when do you apply the decals? Also, does spraying the semi gloss clear lacquer affect the acrylic red? Once again, fantastic job.

I used Tamiya XF-7 Flat Red. I forgot to mention the decals, sorry. I applied them after all my brushwork was done. Directly over the flat, with both Micro Set and Micro Sol as setting agents.
The clear I used was Tamiya X-35 Semi Gloss, its an acrylic. I just thin it with Tamiya Lacquer thinner as it seems to dry harder and it doesn't affect any of the colors.
