Fujimi Brabham BT-46 Surface Cooler Question

Has anyone built this kit? The PE for the coolers is fine but I’m trying to figure out how to make each cooler look like a separate item. In looking at builds online, each modeler just paints the entire panel red and then glues on the PE grills. No one does anything to represent that each one of these coolers is a separate item by painting the raised edges.
I’ve thought about gluing the PE grills onto a separate sheet of plastic and then trimming around the edges so I can then paint them silver. Then sanding down the raised portions of the bodywork and painting red before adding the coolers. A lot of work, but I can’t think of another way of achieving the fidelity I’m looking for.
Any other ideas? Suggestions?
