Tamiya Ferrari 312T3 1/20

Post by gderoo »

Hello.

For my next project I'm going for the tamiya Ferrari 312T3 kit scale 1/20

I just was wondering what to do with the Chromed parts. Because I like the gloss so
I thought to just clear coat them, add the decals and then clear them again.
Or should I consider other options.

I am in the team "Hey what's wrong with the chrome?" too :D
I disagree that a chrome paint gives the proper finish at this scale (bar some exceptions).
There are some ways to none it down.
You may clear coat it with a gloss/satin mix, or even some smoke that will amke it look less flashy.
I know this is not much popular to say but I don't get polishing color paint till a gloss way bigger than the real thing and then rejecting the "stock" chrome of these cars for too glossy.
Ah, the decals! well the finish you already have is in fact a clear coat. Decals will adhere reasonably well to it. So you can make do with the second gloss clear coat, to protect and seal the decals...

I removed the chrome with chante clear, then tamiya primer, then TS13 to make it perfectly smooth and finally 2 coats of ts30, not covered by clear.

Common bleach works well for removing Chroming.

I used Bare Metal foil for the wings and sprayed a polished silver for the rims
