Ferrari 156 Sharknose in plastic Y/N?
I have a member of the scale model club we belong to asking me if the Ferrari 156 Sharknose is available as a plastic kit. The only kit that came to mind was that from MFH. My online search yielded zero results in plastic, though the Revival kit did come up, however, it and the MFH kits are not what he is looking for. Can anyone advise differently and confirm that it does exist in plastic.
Thank you,
Mike

Well, you’ve pretty much covered 1/20 scale. If he’s interested in 1/24 scale, Fernando Pinto makes a very nice kit. It’s mainly resin with some metal and a beautiful set of built up wire wheels and tires.

I have not seen one in plastic, MFH is the only choice for 1/20, MFH did it in both metal body and resin body.

Revival did Shark Nose in 1/20 in metal. They might have done plastic version, as they did for some other of their kits.
But I've never seen one. So, would not claim it exists.

It should be noted that if he's wanting to build a 156 that'd look right in a line of cars, the Revival kit wouldn't be a great choice. It's quite oversized. It builds up into a nice car and looks the part, but it is closer to 1/18 than 1/20.

It is one of the great mysteries of modelling, why there is no plastic model of an iconic F1 car such as the Ferrari 156, while we have a whole flock of forgettable Saubers, Mclarens and Ferraris. Ah Fujimi...

Maybe because there are no “real ones” left? I know there are replicas, like the one made by by Chris Rea for La Passione, but all the originals were (I believe) destroyed.
Not sure how model companies go about producing a model, but I’m sure having access to the subject would make it a lot easier?

Re: Ferrari 156 Sharknose in plastic Y/N?
Its a good point, but there are (have been?) multiple toys made of the 156, and most likely some general drawings still exist of the real car.
I know that in our days, the designers give (probably strongly simplified and slightly altered so noone can copy them for windtunel use...) CAD designs to model, toy and game companies, but I would guess the skills of draftsmanship are still alive. There are plenty of models of planes, tanks and ships that no longer exist.
But I think the reason is the licensing cost and the tooling cost for what is essentially a small model (so small sale price) and the limited interest of the subject. We are but small fish in the modelling world.

I believe there is one on display at the Barber museum in Alabama. I remember seeing one around 2005.
