San Francisco shops?

Post by Paul_OFarrell »

Hi all,

Are there any decent hobby shops in the San Francisco bay area worth checking out?

Thanks in advance...

Sadly we have almost nothing left. We had at one time 2 very large and well stock shops in the South Bay Area, in fact 1 said they were the largest hobby shop in the country.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the responses.

Would you be able to tell me if Ying's Hobbies is worth a visit?

Hobbies Unlimited in San Leandro, in the East Bay, has been a great hobby shop for years. Well stocked and very friendly, helpfull staff. You'd need to rent a car to get there, but it's well worth the trip.

I believe I went to that "largest" one when I were a lad around 1976. It was the very first thing to pop into my mind when I saw the header. Back when there were Busy Bs in every mall ( and these things called "record stores") and now there is little to nothing for actual shops.

Paul, if you happen to be driving a little north of Sacramento, You need to go to "A-Main Hobbies"...
They are in Chico, Ca.:
AMain Sports & Hobbies has three locations. One is the distribution center location where we process and manage all the online and phone orders, and the other two locations are our brick and mortar retail stores for walk-in customers to browse product and make purchases. Our hobby retail store is located directly across the street from the new Silver Dollar R/C Raceway and approximately one mile from the AMain Sports & Hobbies distribution center. The Bicycle retail store is located in the heart of Chico near the mall on 20th St. The address and hours of operation of the three locations are:

Please note the following 2019 retail closures in observation of national holidays:

•Thursday, November 28, 2019
•Wednesday, December 25, 2019

Best Wishes, Querque
