I think Arturo being a bit impatiently and got in the car before the mechanics signed it of for use..... :lol: :lol: :lol:
But I really think it is for testing how the car handels without wings, just chassis.

At the previous round at Canada Merzario had an accident early in the race and lost the whole nose of his car. He drove the rest of the race without the nose and finished 5 laps down in 15th place, but not being last.
I could imagine as the car was somehow driveable, the Ferrari Team decided to give the no-wing-config a try at Watkins Glen.

I made a quick search on the web. Apparently, he had an accident and lost the rear wing. Then he pitted to have also the front wing removed. The unusual picture is the result...

Also beware that at the time of this picture Forghieri was already back on board and had started modifying the car (side radiators, large front wing etc.) to get the basic configuration that would have been successful the year after....
