Thinning Tamiya LP Paints

Post by vanhookvintage »

Hi All,

I'll be running out of cans of TS-29 soon, and switching over to LP-5 (at my pace, "soon" is a relative term  ).

Question for those of you with experience using the new LP paints: what do you thin it with and what's the starting point for thinner to paint ratio?

Any advice will be appreciated. :D :D :D

Cheers,
Greg

I thin it with LP-10 or Tamiya Lacquer thinner. 50/50 is a good start.

I thinned it out with Lacquer thinner from Lowe’s.
Cheaper and worked fine.

I would use Tamiya's lacquer thinner. It's not as 'hot' as hardware store thinner and the paint doesn't dry as quickly, but your mileage may vary. I only use hardware store lacquer thinner for cleanup.

Tamiya lacquer thinner or Mr Color levelling thinner work the best. 50:50 works well in my airbrush with 0.5mm tip..

Thanks everyone. I have Tamiya lacquer thinner and store brand. I guess I'll do some playing around.

Greg
