1/12 Heller Liigier

Post by Papalou »

Hi all,

Have any of you built the 1/12 Heller Ligier? What is your experience with the car/product?

I have heard the quality is poor (like Protar) and parts do not fit. Also issues with the decals, especially the white sections.

Appreciate your thoughts/comments/input

Have a great weekend

Hi Lou,

I have two of these in my collection. This particular kit is a basket case of issues. The two halves of the monocoque do not meet together very well. Be prepared to apply loads of sheet styrene and putty to make the two halves meet equally.

Then there is the issue with the engine and transmission, both are well out of scale, as are the front wheels and tyres ( from memory ). There are other issues which other members can mention because I haven't built mine yet - and I am not in a hurry to build it either. I think the engine cover might not be a good fit.

Be careful with the tyres. They are prone to rotting over time, so replacing them would be a good start.

Cheers, Paul

What Paul said basically, just pointing it's the rear wheels that are wrong (well both are, rears are "wronger" as rim diameter is too big).
Here you see what it can become with good work, and also make an idea of what it'll look without that work.

That's a hybrid with Tamiya "help" and yes, lots of work...

some more stuff on the car here...

and some more talk...

Basically, built with faith it'll become a ncie well shaped thing to look from not closer than 50cm, depending on your eye...
so, you have chance of buying and are in doubt? Price? :D

Comparing the Heller Ligier to Protar is an insult to Protar.

The Heller Ligier is the worst 1/12th F1 kit I have ever seen.

+1,000,000 having built one of each.

Here is my build of the Ligier that was pretty much out of the box:

Yes, that's much true. Regardles which one you take, Protar is on another league. They have their problems, but it's like comparing the concept of the 1/24 Revells to the ne of 1/20th Tamiyas and the like.

...closely tied with the Renault RE20 from Heller too, I'd add.
Hard to tell whic one is worse. If you consider there are two more options (yes, turbo drove them exquisitely mad! :P ) as Protar and Tamiya, that makes the RE20 worse. At least the JS11 has the "only game in town" label.
That it's the worst 1/12 kit does not make it sooooooo bad.
As I said, level of detail is really poor, there are fit problems (chassis, not that hard to fix), though body panels fit well. But yest a JS11 at 1/12 is quite an impressive sight.
