Another Lotus 98T

Post by tonym »

Hi,
Here's the beginnings of my Lotus 98T. I'm just doing a curbside, so hopefully I can get a nice looking body without all of the nuts and bolts underneath. I think the photos tell most of the story of what I've changed. I've got the F1Specialties decals to help out.
It fits nicely into the 1986-89 theme that I'm working on at the moment.
Since taking these photos, I've refined it a little more and primed, and got a surprisingly clean result, just a few little things to fix.
I hope you like it.
Cheers

Hi WIlliam,
I've carefully cut out the piece from the monocoque with the intention of using it to mold or vacform a piece of clear plastic to shape. I've done similar things with aircraft canopies over the years. Then I'll airbrush with Tamiya Smoke to get some colour onto it.
I'm not sure if it'll work, but it's all I've got at the moment. Any other ideas welcome.
Cheers
Tony

Hi WIilliam,
No trick to cutting it, in fact the plastic is very thick and requires many many scoring cuts with the Exacto No 11. I just tried to stay very closely with the original mark, which I did very carefully. There were a few mistakes, but these are really easy to clean up with CA gel, only took about 5 minutes.

Here's a shot with the primer on. Since this one it's got a still wet coat of glass black, and I've decalled the front and rear wings.
