Seat texture suggestion

Post by bmwmech1 »

Not sure where to post this tip...In my viewing of many WIP's, I have noticed alot of builds with very interesting ideas and attempts on seat textures. I have a product that I have been using which I'll pass along to everyone and see how it goes over ... It's Rust-oleum"s Specialty Line Grip & Guard texture rubber coating spray. It's the stuff you use for handles on tools and the like, to give them a softer textured grip. This stuff works really well in both 1/20th and 1/12th because you can vary the texture intensity by holding the can further from the item you're spraying for more/larger texture. I've used it on seats and items you want to have a rough cast-like texture such as master cylinders, steering racks, etc. with great success. You can paint over it and it looks "right" for most applications I've used it in so far. I'll try to attach a couple of example pics to this post... Give it a try

Maybe I should create a section on the new site for Tips and Hints?

Would people actually post there?

Well, I was going to leave that for whatever form the new Forum section was going to take, but with my current schedule it might take a month or do before I can get that set up.

I have set up an area to post tips on the new site. Do you want to try to repost this over there? You can upload the images too...

http://www.f1m.com/node/add/tips

I would do it, and then change the author, but I think the pics would end up in my space in the new area...

Thanks,

Eric

I got it at my friedly neighborhood "Blue and Grey" DIY box store... Not the "Orange and White" one, although they may have it as well.... Since I see you're from up North, It's the Nascar team Jimmie Johnson drives for, not the one Tony Stewart drives for... not trying to be cryptic here, just don't know if I can say Lowes or Home Depot...

Home Depot just open a new store near me, I will go and take a look in there.
One more question, is the spray transparent or coloured?

Scale Motorsport has had "Faux Fabric" for quite a few years now, and it has been mentioned here many times before. After you spray it on and it dries, you can paint it any color you want, but it comes in Black, Tan and Grey, if I remember correctly. An excellent product.
