yes, JM! Solid windshield was used both in 1980 and 81. Besides, the edges were so smooth with rest of bodywork, so some putty is to be used, and also paintwork is a bit compromised!! One can no longer use the blue windshield color as a paint border... But you can always pain it dark blue/white inside and proceed as on the BT50...

Sorry for being a smart ass . But in 1980 it was transparent blue, see picture.JamesB wrote:...Solid windshield was used both in 1980 and 81. ...
I'm not really sure about 1979 but I would think dark blue (non transparent).
But you are perfectly right regarding the smoth edges, it could even be that the cockpit front cowling in 1981 was one piece, i.e. no separate windscreen.

The '79 version was transparent as well
I can't really post it as the pic is in the Canada/USA GPI from '79, but it clearly (!) shows the screeen to be transparent on Piquet's BT49.
There's also a nice pic of the front suspension, which looks near identical to that of the BT48.

JM and JamesB,
Many many thanks for the explanation !
That was the picture I was looking for
Now I can fix this on my AMD transkit. So 1979 and 1980 : transparent windscreen and 1981 : fiber glass painted white inside and royal blue outside . Good for me !
For the smooth area...I will need to close my eyes as the body of my transkit is already painted with decals on....

As Jonalfre was inquiring for the pictures from this Brabham BT49 post I did add them again to the post. Originally they were linked to Photobucket
As I can only add 7 attachments per post here are the missing four pictures from the first post.

Re: Converting 3 Tamiya Brabham BT50 into BT49 versions
Just finding this thread now. Superb work!
Can I ask a question on the AMD conversion kit? Are the sidepods different from the BT50 kit or are they identical? I know there are differences between BT49 and BT50 pods just not sure what exactly.
I'm interested in doing a BT49D.
As the AMD nose is more appropriate for an earlier -49 and if the sidepod are the same I may as well just cut up a BT50 kit.
Anyway, great work.

Also great to bring back this fANTASTIC Jens' thread.
I'll PM you in an hour or so...
Anyway, AMD did a hell of a job with that BT49, which depicts IIRC teh '81 car quite exactly.
Nope, sidepods are quite different, as it should be. Generally some 3mm lower, radiator exits different in size, profile also different.
The codundrum anyway is that the '82 car has almost every square mm different. Sidepods are slanted also in a transversal sense (higher in the middle). Nose is closer to the BT50 than the 49C, but also different to the BMW one...

Alesi27 you are in good hands with JamesB's advice. He's our Mr. Eagle-eye whereas I'm usually satisfied if things just give me the impression to be right.alesi27 wrote: Can I ask a question on the AMD conversion kit?
