This is a great thread, fascinating to see how seamlessly the old techniques and 3d printing can be blended together to create something extraordinary! :D

There's an english phrase that goes, "You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear...", well apparently James and Thomas can!

Thank you for the many kind words, I will continue to try my best. :)
Special thanks again to Rado for the support with the templates.

I don't know yet how exactly I will get the wing mounted at the end when everything is painted. But as I always say - time will come, advice! :D

Hi James & Thomas.
Wow! I've only now seen this thread. Amazing skills gentlemen and I'm loving the way you're explaining how you work out dimensions from photos too. That is a skill I need to learn better for all sorts of projects!
Am I right in thinking FW09 was still using pullrod/ dual wishbone rear suspension at Dallas?
They reverted to the FW07/08-type rocker arm set-up later in the season so they could use a McLaren-style coke bottle rear end. I think they changed for Silverstone but I'm not sure.
Anyway, this is some fantastic work. Please keep going so we can enjoy and learn even more.
Phil.

P.S. Will either of you be making a Jacques Laffite figure wearing pyjamas as he appeared for the 7am morning warm-up at Dallas?!

Made a little dirty today... The old tires removed from the decals. I'll be painting the rims and tires shortly!

Then again inside.
One page has also been finished, I only need the 2nd page! :D

The radiator is from the FW11, the charger from the Kawai kit, the rest is scratch build.
I made the front part of the air inlet from aluminum again due to the stability.

Whether the space on the inside is sufficient remains to be seen.
Actually I need more space there, as the lines from the radiators have to run along there. :?

And once I moved the front wing into the right place.

Fantastic!
I see you are still working out how best to modify the rear cover - I did not realise how all kinds of wrong the Kawai engine cover is!
Card F1 models are a very underrated resource for plastic modelers, good to see you using one.

Yes, that's right, the engine cover just doesn't really match the original. However, the ModelyF1 paper templates help in many areas. :D

Today I also adjusted the air flow on the radiators again and am much more satisfied with it. I will post pictures in the next few days. ;)

So today again just pictures of the progress ...

- Pedals ready
- Front shock absorbers made ready

- the adapted radiators and air ducts in the side pods
- adapted engine cover (rear area)

The air outlets in the side pods had to be adjusted again - that is, shortened, because the radiators are very high, which I underestimated!
Topic of the engine cover - these should come pretty close to the original.
