Re: WILLIAMS FW09 Dallas winner KAWAI+some more...
I did some dirty work today and removed the front suspension from the old model. It wasn't that easy. I took a long time to remove them ... without destroying them. There was a lot of glue everywhere from the modeler who built the FW11. After that I cleaned a few rough things and removed the old paint. Pictures come tomorrow!
Then I did a test print with different parts ... front wing side panel, cockpit parts and the air intakes on the nose. It turned out quite well and almost everything worked as intended. Pictures will follow tomorrow after hardening!

Dirty he said, haha! but clean result
Here we go.
OK, I decided to keep the most I could from original vhassis, so I chopped what I would not need:
And glued it to the plank; I also narrowed the inclined black plate, I'll keep it to give rigidity, but has to make room for the side 1mm plates:
Fit between nose and bodywork is good, lets try to keep it:
I also make the upper chassis part narrower to make room for the side walls, they'll overlap this part and meet bodywork at top edge:
I made bthe plates. Easy measures: 30mm long, 20 and 15mm tall I glue them, though I suspect plastic is a mix of PS and ABS...
Some tape to hold in place
And once open result looks good...
Upper chassis fits well, therell be time to adjust it.
This is VERY important: I fill the nose with resin, as otherwise I'll meet hollow when I sand the nose thnner. Target measures are smaller than interior width, so that's a must!!c
That's how it looks when everything's set
So, some pencil now!
And then some scalpel and sanding...
Yes! roughly, it's ready. Now let's see how it looks with cover:
Yes were done!
So, that's so far. Easier than expected.
Thomas, that 3D stuff is awesome. I'll warn, though, that endplates look too thick. Look the pic I posted, they are strictly "2D", with 0.3mm plastic you'll be OK.
Let's face it: wings are too narrow, there's no way saving them with thicker endplates
Two more things: Thomas, yellow stuff is simply plastiline.
And nose tip has been reduced to 5.5mm, 7.5mm high. All the reduction in heigth was done on the lower side: upper face has to keep its flatness
Thanks for looking and pointing at whatever you see worth mentioning, guys!

Thanks Yes of course... 0,3 will be enough - printing was 1st trail and I will make Plates from metal, sand them down or use it only as templateJamesB wrote:Thomas, that 3D stuff is awesome. So now pictures from yesterday...
Removing the paint on the front suspension.
The air inlets on the nose.
And the dashboard and the brake adjustment.
I've already prepared a few toggle switches and buttons, but that'll all come later ...
I picked out a steering wheel - that of the FW07 fits very well.
I painted the air valves by hand and sanded the baseplate of the dashboard down as far as I had to.
So thanks for pictures and instructions for the nose adjustments to James!!
This will also my next job...
Then I'll take another look at the monocoque.
An intermediate floor should be added here and a hole on the top must also be closed. I once marked it with the arrows in the pictures.
The holes should also be round, but that's a problem with the injection molding tool - they simply saved money here and it was easier to demold. But I think I'll leave it like that!

Great!! That's getting really serious.
I love the switches
About front suspension, I think only lower wishbone (maybe) can be used. Upper one has different angle and positioning.
Ah those vent intakes are sooooo good!!!

Don't worry James, the lines on your nose are all old!! I still haven't sanded.
I still have to fill the front of the nose before sanding.
But I made the nose removable... I hope that doesn't get in the way of sanding.
Pictures come tomorrow!

I still owe you the pictures.
I made the nose removable and designed it so that the fluid containers for the brake and clutch can also be attached.
I inserted the intermediate floor in the monocoque and also made the hole for the handlebar.
