McLaren M7B Heller 1:24 South Africa GP
As the title suggests, it's about the McLaren M7.
The kit is from the Heller company in a scale of 1:24 from 1971 - that is, almost 50 years old. The packaging of the kit looks accordingly
After a few questions that I have already asked about the McLaren M7 here in the forum to be on the safe side, I have now started.
The first parts were removed from the sprue and cleaned of the parting line and the injection points.
Basically, for the age of the kit, I have to say surprisingly little burr and a very good fit. Some manufacturers can take this as an example for their kits today.
I also started closing the ejector points with putty. Sometimes they could just be sanded down a little. I have already glued smaller assemblies.
Since the decals are more than yellow, I couldn't avoid getting a few new decals. But there is not just one set. So I decided to use a variant made from Patto's decals and those from Nec Retro. With Niels from Nec Retro I am currently working on creating additional decals to get even closer to the original.
Another topic for me was the tires. These are a 2-part version in the set. In addition, the driven profile is very poor. So I decided to create it from scratch and print it out of resin.
A first attempt was good, but after a small adjustment to the data set, the tires look very good to me and I like them better than the rubber versions from the kit.
Another point that didn't bother me was the brakes. Both the discs and the brake calipers are kept very simple. So I put some construction work into it and created a few new parts.

Thank you, I basically don't say no, but I don't plan on mass production. But of course we can talk about anythingfeelgood wrote:Fantastic start! Will you be selling your upgrades?

Your 3D print tires are miles ahead of the kit tires.

Many thanks.CK wrote:Your 3D print tires are miles ahead of the kit tires.
I tried to stick to the original profile as much as possible. It is of course not that difficult, which makes working in construction easier.
Sometimes there was an additional slot on the outer edge, always between the main profile, which I have not shown on my tires.
