Hi everybody,
finally I have a much better finish on the paint.
No clear added, only micromesh 6000 8000 12000 grit.
The body is now ready to re-apply decals, then I plan to protect with some automotive wax (don't know which one) to give more shine and depth to the color.

hehe, I'm with you. Not that realistical... but decals do deteriorate, that's a fact.Redbox wrote:Hi James, to be honest I'm not a fan of clear coat over the decals. It is not like the real thing, especially in the 80s. Sponsors are simply stickers applied over the paint.
I agree that it is good to preserve the model over time... I will store the model far from direct sunlight in a display: I hope this will be enough to keep it in good shape over years, once finished!
I literally can't live with that thick "gelly" finish that some apply over the decals, but a gentle not too shiny (overall paint was not that shiny either) is better than nothing. Some decals do have a long life, some "die" in a few years, regardless where you put the model.
Wax, you say? that's a bit dangerous: these have solvents that might attack the decals.
I am sure you'll have thought of it, but you better make a test if you have some spare decals..
Anyway, awesome job!
