Hi and thx for your nice comments :-)

Today's update is about building the Gear Linkage and Shifter.

This is how the shifter looks like in the original car (Porsche Museum car#8)

First, the tunnel surrounding the gear linkage had to be modified in order to accommodate the new shifter

Next will be the front suspension

Uli, sometimes I wonder why you bought the MFH Kit in the first place

That is not a valid question :P. Why? Well, simply put Uli / Michael would do that win any kit, be it a $100 Tamiya kit, or a $600 MFH kit. The beauty is taking that basis to not only the next level, but the level after that. In a way it feels like watching the re-engineering of the kit. However, near the end you will see that large parts of the kit will remain basically "untouched", i.e. the actual body will probably get some slight alterations (unlike the recent Bugatti would require) but it'll be the kit part. Maybe he could recreate the body as well or the chassis - or both, and in the end little or next to nothing of the original kit will remain. But without that kit as a basis, this model would have never happend. Like say, I would recast the body in fibreglass or have the engine block recast in aluminium or whatever - then the percentage of kit parts vs re-engineered parts is 10:90 %, but still, without the actual kit none of this would happen. Just my 2cts.

That aside, I love seeing how the parts are remade, improved and whatnot. And just knowing the dimensions and seeing how even a minor part takes 10 steps to be done boggles the mind (mine anway). I kind of expect the gearbox to work in the end using the shifter obviously :)
Cheers,
Roman

Hi there, thanks for your comments and Felix, good question and already perfectly answered by Roman. Roman, I couldn't have said it better :-) I usually use appr. 80% of the MFH parts and put (depending on the model) a couple of hundred additional parts on top. I love to re-engineer the original car as scale model and MFH kits do provide a great platform for that. To design a complete model from scratch is possible but would become pretty expensive for a one-off model if 3D printed in 1:12 scale (especially for the bodywork). in fact, I was thinking about to design a full detail Moby in 1:12 from scratch but luckily, MFH come out first :-)

Back to the RSR: This update is about building the brake calipers and discs

In the RSR kit, MFH has reused the brake calipers of the 917/30, which however have not been used by the 911 Carrera RSR Turbo 2.1. The main difference is in the arrangement of the cooling fins. So I've designed new calipers along with brake pads and allen bolts that can be separately inserted. All will be 3D-printed

Next update is about building the Dampers and completion of wheel hub assembly

I'm speechless... Wow.
Which 3D printer made these parts?

Love the composition of the brakes, probably easier than going through a million drill bits! Which is also a comment on how changed technology allows parts to be made.

This is looking awesome!
