Next 1990 car: The Arrows A11B!
After completing the McLaren, Williams, and Lotus from 1990, it's time for the next car.
I picked this 1/20 Arrows A11B up on Yahoo Japan, and really didn't know what to expect.
What I received was a body, badly warped tray, and some very crude wing bits.
All resin castings are plagued with large chunks of splotchy resin bits that I've already started to eliminate. The shape seems fairly close overall except for the rear. The diffuser on the tray is nice, and the tray is thin enough that I should be able to save it.
I'll be using a combination of donor parts from the FW13b and Lotus 102d, as well as 3D printed parts. Decals are from S27 and seem to have everything needed.
I'm going to start with the front wing, and will update as I go along.
Wish me luck because I'm gonna need it!!

I'm watching this one with a very keen interest. I'd love an A11 in 1/20. Need it in the 1989 USF&G livery.
Be super interested to see what you can make of this, reminds me of the ACE Brabham I made a while back. Persevere and you'll get there. Look forward to seeing your progress...

If you hadn't told us what that was, I'd have guessed it was an FW12. Looks like you'll have some work to do, good luck.

Re: Next 1990 car: The Arrows A11B!
I've been getting a little work done on the body and front wing. I've used the wing from a Tamiya FW13B, cut down flush at the back, and filled the contours with epoxy putty.
I'm focusing on the French Grand Prix, so that means the side pods needed to be opened for the radiators. (it was a scorcher!) I've got them cut out and roughly boxed in with styrene.
Last, the air intake was represented with a slightly recessed divot. I wanted a more 3 dimensional look, so I 3d printed a plug with an opening.
I'll get everything smoothed out and fit the wing next, then on to the front suspension!

I haven't noticed this thread before.
Of course I wish you best of luck as I had seen one of these kits myself. It is by 'Garage unlimited' right?
If you are interested I could send you several close-up pictures of that car which I had taken a few years ago. I just wonder if they are a help or if they result in frustration about the model.

Thanks for the well wishing, as I will need it! I am unsure of the manufacturer, as there was no box or paperwork.
Pictures would be great, especially for the rear wing and cockpit area. It will be curbside, of course, but I would still like to attempt to make everything else relatively accurate. Thanks!

Excellent start to what sounds like a real basket case of a kit.

Re: Next 1990 car: The Arrows A11B!
The A11b is coming along slowly but surely.
I've got the body almost ready for paint. I 3d printed a plug for the main air scoop so that there was actually a hole. I also printed new front faces for the side pod intakes to better represent the real thing. The lower tray was unusable due to severe warping, so I printed that as well.
Engine, gearbox, and suspension are ready to go, and I'm going to start working on the front and rear wings soon.
I'm getting the hang of 3d printing, and ordered a 43rd scale Minardi M190 in hopes of using that as reference to 3d print an entire car. Gotta keep dreaming!

Hi Jeff,
you have already put much work in that awfull kit.
Now with the primer on it finally starts to show it's beauty!
I look forward to see it in plain white with the red ribbon on.
Should you succeed with the M190, please let me know when you intend to do similar things with the 1990 Osella. I absolutly love the paintjob on that car.
Please keep going!
