Yep. Chemichal reaction, so water takes it place (volume) and stays there, excepting the small part that remains unreacted and evaporates, as Ferr points.
Minimal shrinkage AFAIK, unless you use too much water.
And yes, once fully dry, hard as a rock.

The underbody is totally wrong and needs a complete change of the rear end.

The middle part of the diffusor was cut out and replaced by a new one of soldered brass sheets.

The central tunnel is spire shaped, that needs some more modifications.
