Another Ligier JS41 conversion
from the Benetton 195 Academy kit.
Had a quick look round the kit on saturday following arrival of JamesB provided decals to make this conversion. Only issue i spotted is a bent front upright thats still attached to the sprue. Whilst it can be straightened out, i fear it may be weakened so need to either make a new one, or strengthen the bent one and suck it up.
As mentioned previously, I'm useless with an airbrush so this will be hand painted. I've primed using Tamiya grey (thats all i had left, and was running out) and will paint using Mr Colour blue. Not anticipating any problems however i've read about numerous issues
sprues (you can see the bent upright on the right)
Front wing, nose not glued to wing yet
Rear cowling. I've never used putty before so this is a first attempt. Didnt get chance to look at how its dried this morning however i'm ready to get sanding tonight. If it needs redoing then i'll redo it - Also, as i mentioned on CTurberts thread, i dont have any plastic card so its basically a lump of putty and crudely shaped.
*the black specs are from my fingers, i'd been messing with my Ferrari F2007 kit (awful kit by Fujimi btw) before whipping out the putty. Not expecting it to cause issue but again will inspect tonight.
This will be an OOB build however updates to follow.

I do see some spray cans there, though... what if you try to paint the body with the TS Tamiyas?
BTW: I owe you a JPG with decal placement instructions!!!

Re: Another Ligier JS41 conversion
got to work with sandpaper last night. Not finished but here's some progress. I was using CTurberts work as a guide
still needs some sanding to reduce the overall size of the modification.
side note: first time using putty, surprised at how easy it is to work with.
question: I assume i will need to reprime before painting especially over the putty?
any advice helpful

Re: Another Ligier JS41 conversion
Hi Paul,
Yes, you will need to re-prime the puttied area before you apply any paint, otherwise a separation line will be seen between the putty and the styrene. Re-priming the area will help hide the join.
After it dries, you may find that the putty you applied may have shrunk. To avoid shrinkage, you can apply some of Tamiya's 2 part epoxy putty instead. The best part of epoxy putty is that it does not shrink at all and it can be sanded, filed, sawn and drilled if needed. It behaves closer to conventional styrene than regular tube putty does.
Cheers, Paul

Re: Another Ligier JS41 conversion
cheers for the info other Paul good to know. I think i might need to putty up around the headrest as well reading on other threads on here about the Benetton and CTurberts thread (leaning heavily on his build )
will order some of the mentioned putty later.
edit: had a look now, FYI i'm using Milliput white, is this a similar thing to the tamiya one?
thanks

Re: Another Ligier JS41 conversion
Looks good so far! Milliput is great. I don't believe it shrinks over time like solvent based putties. The airbox shape is coming along nicely.
Re: Another Ligier JS41 conversion
Looking fine.
Yes, be patient with putty and you'll succeed. As I always said: "add where it lacks, remove where it exceeds; repeat till it's good"
I'd say the "add on" is a bit bulky. You might remve a bit horizntally with a mdeling knife.
Putties like Milliput are subject to be shaped with a sharp thing, as if it was wood you know.
Yes two component putties don't shrink.
About TS, yu wuld be between TS15 and TS44.

Re: Another Ligier JS41 conversion
update.
more sanding of the lump done. much smaller and i was happy with it.
gave all the bodywork a coat, couple of pieces missed out strategically to aid hand painting.
I'm doing the kit curbside so the bodywork has been glued down, the left hand side of the car needs a bit more work, however theres another coat to go on. I've got some paint pens to touch up the bits of blue on the carbon sections (suspension / undertray)
plodding along nicely. Wings to be attached, decals then clear coating to be done.
