1/8 Diecast Ford Mustang Repaint

Post by WardsModelBuilder »

Here is my next project, I have been asked to strip and repaint a 1/8 scale Ford mustang diecast shell. It will be repainted in zero paints Candy Purple over a fine metallic silver, and will be finished with the stripes redone in silver.

Body pieces have now dismantled so they are easier to work with and stripped of the original paint.

Other than a couple of little marks the metal body is in good condition so I can now move on to primer.

Looks great, how did you strip the paint?

That's one of those Hachette produced news stand models I think. Love the 1/24th and 1/8th scale series they are producing. They are doing a W196 and an F40LM in 1/8th also along with a Alpine A110 and a bunch of lesser cars.

I just use a varnish and paint remover from my local DIY (hardware) store. Brush on a few hours later it washes right off. Bit a wire brushing for the remaining paint.

Here are all the pieces off the body that are now painted in the Candy Purple.

Still needs the clear coat to be added after a light sand.

Hopefully will have the main body section fully sprayed in the next few days.

that looks beautiful

when you put this together can you do a step by step, particularly attaching the doors to the body. I've got this and believe the screws are absolutely unsuitable for the job and i've thrown the lot back in the box.

The body has now been painted in the Zero Paints Candy Purple, just need to add the stripes that will be silver, then a final clear coat and it will be finished.
