MFH Porsche 917/30 1:12

Post by VR2 »

Hello, it's quite a while since my last post. I've been busy with building this 917/30, which is finally approaching the finish line. I hope to see the checkered flag by end of April :D

The model contains the superior MWT detail kit and plenty of my own developed parts (etched, machined, decals).

Pics of the finished model will be posted by early/mid May.

BR, Uli

I'm with Christian here.. it's ok. I mean seriously, no recreation of the typical Porsche weld seams on the frame? PFFF

Again, like Christian, just kidding. I'm expecting to see another benchmark build in the making here. The only thing
I actually do not fancy are the fibreparts on the front of the body, i.e. radiator box, the colours don't click with me
and I think the shround (the box) is too thick. But that's due to the MFH parts. Other than that, picture perfect. It
could pass for the real thing :)

On a rather unrelated side note. Since I've run out of books to read, I've started reading my motorsport books, have
started with the Starkey book on the T70 and am currently reading the Wingrove book "undercover story" which has
really detailled insights into how these 917s came to be. I'm currently in the engine chapter.
Cheers,
Roman

Incredible. Was the frame glued or soldered?

Thanks for sharing the build. I will follow closely as i have both the kit and the MWT set.

Regards,

joe.

thanks to all for your nice comments ... and Roman, yes, the next frame I'm going to build will have the weld seams  The challenge is that each frame had a different welding pattern so how to choose the right one  :?: For 917-023 it's easy ... I just need to get access to the car in the Fica Frio collection ... which by the way will be at display in the Porsche Museum during the 917 50th anniversary special exhibition beginning mid May

Joe, the frame is completely assembled with superglue. I never had an issue with that ... and be careful with the MFH building instructions, the routing of the hoses from the oil thermostat (part M71) to the cooler and oil tank is different in the real car (see ref pic below taken from the 917/30-002). Likewise the hydraulic cylinders of the clutch and brake pedals are completely missing in the kit and need to be scratch build (or you make a resin copy of the part in the 917K or LH kits if you have one of those). If you choose to build a version of RD4 (Mid Ohio) or later, also the Boost Pressure knob-wheel ("Dampfrad") on the right side of the instrument panel is not included in the kit, which needs to be scratched build as well. Hope this helps

BR, Uli
