The cockpit is assembled. I ended up using some spacers to make it all fit.

I've started on painting.

Ok, so it's been a looong time since my last update. I am still working on it but I had a 2+ week stretch were I didn't even have time to touch it. When I do work on it I feel like I just spend so much time without getting much done. Lots and lots of test fits and just trying to figure out MFH!

I used painter's tape to make a guide for cutting the leather shapes.
Image

The seat looks much better with real leather vs painted I think. Very cool that MFH includes that.

I also mostly completed the rear suspension

Test fit with everything.

I had some trouble joining the cockpit to the engine. :( I connected it but it was not straight so I pulled it apart. I'm waiting for a slightly larger drill bit (1.5mm) to use a larger screw to join them.

I used CVA but it came apart fairly easy (I guess there's not much surface area for it to join) so maybe next time I'll use epoxy? I plan to add some kind of supports to reinforce the connection as well. I read about others having problems with the strength of this joint as well.

Wonderful craftmanship and clean building. I have pretty much steered clear of MFH kits. I like 1/12 scale to build in and pretty much could only afford 1/20 in a MFH kit. Your build has me wanting to purchase this self same kit. I am working on a Tamiya 1/12 312B w/ICON tires & turned rims. I am a BIG fan of 60's era F1 and especially Ferrari machines. Thanks for sharing and look forward to more.

Many more hours of work and finally some noticeable progress.

After the failed first attempt at joining the engine to the seat I used epoxy and a larger screw and it seems to be a lot stronger of a bond.
Image

I also starting working on the front suspension and joined it to the rest of the car. Despite many dry fits the first two (2) times gluing weren't good enough. There are just so many parts that have to line up on that step.

Third fit was better

I've been trying to knock down the shine of the tire decals (also I had a heck of a time getting those gold circle decals to lay flat and be centered).

Image

I tired stubeck's method of white glue+water (bottom tire) and for comparison top tire with satin clear coat. I will try again with more white glue.

I always hate those golden circles.
Never found a good way to do it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. After doing one I really dreaded the rest. They aren't all centered or perfectly round but I did get a bit better with practice.

Kars, I've used your numerous WIPs as a guide and it's been a great help to a new MFH builder, thanks! 8)

A few questions on your 312s if you don't mind...
Do you use any clear coat on your tires?
What did you use to simulate weld seems on the exhausts?
Any other pitfalls on this kit? Front and rear suspension look very challenging...

The front is getting closer to being done.
Image

I've discovered I'm short on 1mm stainless steel tubing. I'm not sure what happened. Another part of the car required two lengths and I very carefully cut them no longer than required. Maybe I just misplaced something. I only need about 10mm.

Image

So far I've found Hiroboy seeing 1.1mm. Does anyone know of somewhere that sells 1mm stainless tubing? Thanks.

No, this project isn't dead...

I've been working on it but I had a major set-back (I somehow managed to put the transmission/rear suspension on crooked  :? ) and had to stop for 2-3 weeks out of frustration. I had to completely take apart the rear suspension to correct the mistake (the car did not sit flat but rocked back and forth).

I've basically corrected the problem (at least to my satisfaction).

Almost done! I just need to attach a wire or two and put the decals on.
