Jeep's MP4-27 (Fujimi)

Post by Jeep »

Ok. I've finished two other, non-F1 projects and now I've started the MP4-27 (Australian GP) from Fujimi. So far, I've been sanding, preparing, filing, priming, etc. But today, I received a 30 ml bottle of Motolow's Liquid Chrome ink and I tried it with my airbrush on the primed nose (grey, Mr. Surfacer 1200).

Wow!

Thanks!

I think I'll have to because of the decals. I just noticed some specs of dust on the finish, though, so I'll have to sand those off and do another coat on those bits.

Looks great so far! This kit has been on my radar. What clear coat do you plan to use? I've heard Alclad Aqua Gloss is good for chrome.

I haven't decided yet. Aqua Gloss or Future, I think.

Looks great! I wonder how chrome you could get if you had applied a gloss black base. Yours looks perfectly to scale though, wouldn't want to see your own reflection on your model lol.

I've only used Molotow via pen, but in my experience be sure to clear coat before applying decals. Maybe I didn't let it cure long enough, but I've experienced the chrome finish instantly dissolving and turning into regular silver metallic on contact with Micro Set.

Hi all!

Okay. Small update. I've been trying desperately to get the chrome ink on properly. Some parts are ready for a gloss cote, others not yet. Here's the first (and so far only) part that I've coated with Aqua Gloss. (It actually looks a bit shinier than it does on the picture when you see it in person... er... in plastic.)

Hare are a few notes on Molotow Liquid Chrome.

- The stuff gives amazing results, but it is *MERCILESS*!!!!!! Any flaw, no matter how small, will show through!

- You have to put on a *think*, wet coat to get the proper chrome finish. The second you don't put enough, you have to start all over (for instance, I had to redo the nosecone because I'd left off while finishing turning it around).

- You *MUST* wear gloves! Even after several days of curing, the slightest contact will result in an ugly fingerprint!

- If you have to redo some parts, sanding/filing is a pain. Once you've gone through the upper, shiny layer, you have some dark grey gunk, which messes up your flexible files *very* quickly.

Phew!!!!!!!!
