Ferrari SF71H conversion from Ferrari SF70H.

Hi guys this is a little conversion build I've been working on on and off since September last year.

If I'm honest its been 2 steps forward and 1 back through out this time mainly due to the complexity of the car shape between the 2017 and 2018 spec cars. As you will see with the help of much smarter people than myself the build has been made alot easier.

So to start off this is my starting point for the conversion.
Image

The decals i had printed for me by kmp.
Image

The extra mission winnow decals i asked a good friend at grandprix decals to size down a set of 1/18 to 1/20 for me.
Image

The 1st lot of parts that smirkoff from here had produced. Sets 2 and 3 will be shown at a later date.
Image

The parts are incredible esspecially when you consider that smirkoff isn't part of a big company like s27 or top studio he is just a 1 man band with the help of shapeways.

Naturally with 3d printing alot of the parts need cleaning up and a little adjustment but as a starting point they are amazing.

Right now on to the building. And this is where alot of the 2 forward 1 back started. First off I had started this build up in the way I did the SF70H kit months back but quickly realised that it wasn't the best way to get the parts added on in a good enough way. So a new kit was bought out and the original will be made up into a fantasy build maybe in a schumacher livery or senna style McLaren.

Parts of the new kit layed out.

Made up the lower box section of the monocoque before cutting the required area to fit the new sidepods.

Alot of test fitting of parts.

And from the front you can just see how spot on smirkoffs parts are.
Image

And after a few hours of fiddling this is where i got to. The Airbox has had a little filler added due to there being a slight gap between that and the engine cover but other than that it all just fell into place.

Many thanks for looking.

Check smirkoffs shapeways store out some amazing stuff on there.

Also hit up andrea from kmp kool models production on Facebook and check some of the amazing work he does with transkits and decals.

Great progress so far! The 3d printed parts seem to fit surprisingly well. I'll be following this thread.

A little more progression on the SF71H today.

Everything 3D printed has been glued to the car now apart from the flow tuning vanes for the sidepods. Like before it's all fits perfectly. I have had to add a couple of small areas of plastic card as i over cut in some areas expecting the parts to need a little more wiggle room than they actually have needed.
Image

The front wing pillars are just amazing. They fit perfectly and have all the necessary details that the real car has.
Image

A little primer to show up any spot that i havent made good enough. Also the rear fin is fully complete aswell. Anyone undertaking this project will need to add a small amount of plasticard to the rear section to square it up as it has not got the same shape as the SF70H down at the bottom section.
Image

Finally the whole car is in primer. This is the first time you can really see the massive amount of detail in the sidepod areas.
Image

Quick sand of all the not so good areas before 1 last coat of primer.
Image

And finally a coat of silver to make the line that stretches from the front to the rear of the car.

Many thanks for looking

Shaun.

Ok, now I'm tempted to buy another SF70H kit and Smirkoff's parts from Shapeways. This is looking great!

Some of the new parts by smirkoff have arriv3d from shapeways.

This is what you get in set 2 of 3.
Image

The floor parts are very intricate and fiddly, shouldn't be overly hard to get them cleaned up and onto the car.
Image

The barge boards though are simply a work of art. So much detail in what is overall a really small area of the car.

With a couple of days off work now I should be able to get these cleaned up and on the car.
