Ebbro Lotus 91
While I continue to wait for my Jordan 191 decals to arrive so I can finish that project, I decided to give the Lotus 91 my 2nd and one half try. The half would be the Studio 27 kit that I butchered the nose pinstripe on. The first attempt at the Ebbro kit was killed when I missed piece G16 in the engine/gear box build thus throwing the entire rear end of the car out of fit......damnit.
This time around i'm trying to be a little more meticulous in actually READING the instructions. So far, so good.
With the exhaust pipes, I tried painting them chrome then going over that with smoke and then going over it with clear flat.....and they're still shiny!
With this 2nd try at the Ebbro, I thought maybe I could get a better result with getting rid of the seam on the top where the 2 pieces come together but sadly, I got almost an identical result! My putty/sanding skills could use some help. The seam itself is gone, but there's a nice lump across the top like a scar. Anyway.....

Re: Ebbro Lotus 91
This one has kind of turned into a double build....or a double completion. I decided to make Ebbro #1 into a Mansell version with the kit decals. The kit decals are quite interesting. They don't seem to react at all to Micro Sol, but they lay down pretty well. The most noticeable thing to me is; since I had to use primer ( YUCK!!!), it dulled my paint from underneath. The black decals are glossier than the paint. I gave it a polish ( lots of water/sol spots) so maybe it'll even out with clear over it. I can only shrink pics using the camera on my tab, please excuse the blurriness.

The tail of the horrid seam. Already painted, I could'nt stand tha grand canyonesque fischer.....on either engine cover. Sanded them back to the plastic and was happy to see seams gone. The fresh coat of TS 14 was even glossier. Now I have tri tone black...wouldn't have thought it possible.

Re: Ebbro Lotus 91
Finished up the kit that I started when this one was first released. Is it me, or are the front wheels a bit large?
And a question: with black paint, muck and stains really stick out yet the conundrum I find is that if I use polish there is no getting that crap completely off, especially in any seams. How do you lot deal with that?
I'll take some better pics when I have more time before heading off to work...

Don't have any answers to your questions, but that does look great!

Re: Ebbro Lotus 91
I've used water and old tooth brush to try to get polishing compound off. Not sure I was 100% successful though.
Model is looking good !

Nice looking build
Good documentary here that mentions it https://youtu.be/QS4pejg43Ug?t=2068
Strange how I remember this documentary but will forget to put the bins out.
In '82 there were different sized front wheels (13" & 15"). The larger ones were imaginatively called 'talls'. This is knowledge I never thought I would needIs it me, or are the front wheels a bit large?

There is no shame in making a mistake.
However there is shame in making the same mistake twice.
